As I mentioned earlier that this is my first ever purchase from the brand Mamaearth I had high hopes. Everyone was talking about their products for being so pure, gentle on skin, chemical free yet affordable. So when I washed my face with this face wash for the first time I had mixed feelings. I love the thing that this face wash does look like a ubtan, a thick paste that we make at home with milk, turmeric, gram flour etc. So this does not look like a gel or liquid which is how a face wash usually looks like. It smells like saffron faintly. When I started massaging my face with this I felt a little grittiness. That’s because of the walnut beads. The beads are very small, almost like micro particles so they are very effective to scrub away dead skin cells and black heads to some extent. The concentration of the walnut beads though is very low so this face wash cannot really replace an exfoliator, specially if you tend to get black or white heads. Another important thing I noticed is that it does not foam. That’s because it is free from SLS and other sulfates but it formed a rich lather which is enough to clear the dirt away. After the very first application I felt an immediate brightening effect on my skin. My skin felt softer, smoother and fresher. The smell is very uplifting, like real saffron but very faint. After continuous usage for a week I felt the change. There was no tan on my face at all. Mamaearth Ubtan face wash effectively removed my suntan and made my skin even brighter. So this is surely good for summers. I did feel a little dryness after using this, but my skin becomes super dry in winters so I suppose this is good for normal to dry skin. Also I applied moisturiser immediately after washing my face so it never really bothered me like so many other face washes do. Long story cut short, it is not that drying. Again it’s a face wash. We can’t expect extra moisture from this. Now I did not have too much of tan on my face ’cause it was winter when I tried it for the first time! So I tried it out in the summer to check how well it performs on the tan removal part. Honestly it does brighten up the whole face, neck and arms if used right after the sun exposure. Also when I wash my face using this baby I notice lesser tan that day, but then of course it is pointless to expect a face wash to remove severe old tan, it works the best on freshly tanned skin. So overall it’s a very good face wash. I love harmful chemical free products. It does not contain artificial fragrance, not troublesome for my sensitive nose. Does what it claims. So I am gonna repurchase this baby.
- Chemical free, very gentle on skin.
- Hypoallergenic, suitable for sensitive skin type too.
- Contains loads of skin brightening natural extracts.
- Does what it claims.
- Lightens tan lines and works the best on freshly tanned skin.
- Contains walnut micro particles that scrubs away dead cells.
- No added fragrance, smells like real saffron. Does not irritate sensitive noses.
- Slim tube pack, looks kinda cute, travel friendly.
- Value for money.
- The exfoliation is not that effective to remove black or white heads. You can’t skip using exfoliator separately even if you are using this.
- Can be bothersome to acne prone people because of the walnut beads, they might irritate sensitive skin too.
- Not that effective for severe and old tan.
Do I Recommend?
Yes but not for acne prone skin, the walnut beads might irritate active acne and increase the problem.
